Team Oslo: let’s ship some kindness and vitamin A! 🛳️

Team Oslo: let’s ship some kindness and vitamin A! 🛳️

Hey team! 👋
This year, I’m excited to continue Michael Loeiten’s fundraising tradition with Give Effectively (Gi Effektivt) — an organization dedicated to maximizing the impact of every donation and ensures as much as possible goes directly to the target recipients in less fortunate circumstances.
A couple of years ago, you gathered 20,000 NOK — impressive! This time, I’m proposing that we raise funds for vitamin A supplements for children under the age of 5 who are exposed to the consequences of malnutrition. Not having access to foods rich in vitamin A (like vegetables, fish, milk, and eggs) can lead to serious deficiency diseases, including permanent blindness and reduced vision, and is still a cause of over 200,000 child deaths every year.
It’s amazing to come together for a cause like this! To make it even more impactful, on top of my initial contribution, I’ll match every 10 kroner you donate with 1 kroner of my own up to the first 25,000 kr.
To add some fun, I’ll take on a special challenge for each fundraising milestone:
- 5,000 kr: I’ll host a short but sweet origami session—let’s make some Christmas decorations to brighten up our office! 🎄
- 25,000 kr: I’ll give a short intro presentation on transformer/GenAI models. 🤖
- 50,000 kr: I’ll set up a Meta glasses game/dogfooding station. I got a pair at bootcamp earlier this year but haven’t tried them yet - it’d be fun to do it together! 🕶️
We’ll also be competing against other workplaces, all raising money for effective charities.
50,000 NOK may seem like a lot, but to reach our goal and beat the other companies, I encourage you to invite friends and family outside the workplace to join in.
Let’s make a real difference together! Who’s ready to join the challenge? ✨

Vitamin A supplements.

Vitamin A is an essential nutrient for the healthy development of children, especially to ensure that the sight and immune system function normally. The body cannot produce this vitamin on its own, but in places like Norway it is absorbed through the foods people eat. Nonetheless there are many humans who live in impoverished conditions and therefore don’t have access to foods rich in vitamin A (such as vegetables, fish, milk, and eggs).
Helen Keller International prevents deficiencies through the distribution of vitamin A supplements. Vitamin deficiencies of this form can lead to many problems, including permanent blindness or reduced sight.
By giving two highly concentrated doses of A-vitamin per year to children between six months and five years their needs can be met. The body stores high doses of Vitamin A in the liver and can use this store over the course of many months. Nurses or trained social workers visit households with children in the recommended age group and administers the supplements directly to the children’s mouths.
Helen Keller International cooperates with authorities to distribute supplements of vitamin A in areas of high risk for deficiency, and gives among other things technical support and financing to initiate the programmes.
It costs around 20 NOK to cover a child’s need for vitamin A for one year. The supplements improve the children’s health and lead to a 12-24% lower child mortality rate in the areas where they are distributed. This is a highly cost-effective programme that Gi Effektivt recommends due to its good documentation, promising growth potential, and great openness.

Tax deduction for Norway

In 2025 you can get a deduction in your taxable income up to a total yearly value of 25000 NOK per person or company that donates. Donations that qualify give 22% of their value in deduction, which gives up to 5500 NOK less in tax.
This also counts for donations given to this event. Log into “My page” with the e-mail address you used for the donation and register your national identity number. We will then report the donation to the tax authorities at the beginning of next year
